☺ Fernando Gago, team member of Boca Juniors in “Punta Cup 2004”, transferred to Real Madrid.
It has been recently made the transfer of Fernando Gago to Real Madrid, he was part of the team Boca Juniors who finished 4th in the 2004 edition, loosing to Defensor Sporting of Uruguay in semifinals.
Ironically the first time he played against his new team was in Punta Cup in quarter finals, they ended up winning by 1-0.
☺ The city of Aiguá will be participating of Punta Cup 2007.
After a joint meeting between members of the organization and authorities of the northern city of Aiguá, it is officially confirmed it’s participation of this city as one of the places where the Tournament will take place in this 2007 edition.
We took a tour to visit the Municipal Stadium, and we were very pleased to see that everything was in an optimal condition, and because of its surroundings it will surely be one of the nicest.
☺ Luis Escalada, the striker of the Ecuadorian League.
The striker of the first Edition of Punta Cup, Luis Escalada, is now the maximum striker of the Ecuadorian League playing for his actual team, the Emelec of Guayaquil.
When he played at our tournament he was playing in Boca Juniors, he made his début in Boca in first division, he is still belongs to them and with 3 games to go he has made 23 goals.
☺ Peluffo – Giguens Agreement
Punta Cup Organization has reached a very desired agreement with the renown Peluffo – Giguens Foundation. This is a Foundation that its only porpoise is to Fight the Cancer in young people, they have been many years trying to help the families of those who suffer this illness.
We will give them the 100% of the tickets of the 44 games played in the 2007 Edition.
This way he will accomplish one of the original purposes, that is to be more than an sporting event, we want to help an we believe we can make a little difference for those who really need the help.

☺ Marc Valiente goes to the FC Barcelona, Pre Season
Coach Frank Rijkaard called 4 players from the “B” team for the pre-season that starts next Monday in Barcelona that will move to the Dutch city of Aarthus.
Among these players is Marc Valiente, the Captain of the team that was crowned champion of the 2005 Edition of Punta Cup.
At 19 years old, Valiente is playing with the under 19 Spanish team and is one of the most promising defenders in Spain.
☺ Juan Albin signed for Getafe of Spain
Juan Albin, midfielder of Nacional of Montevideo and member of the team's first appearance in Punta Cup, has become the new player of the revelation team of the Spanish League, Getafe.The club from Madrid is confident of the talent of this young promising player, and the expectations are that he will become one of the organizers of the team's attack, to try and improve the excellent campaign of last season.
☺ Luis Suarez to the Dutch's Groningen
The player from Nacional of Montevideo, and former particiant of the 2005 edition of Punta Cup and striker of the Tournament has been transferred to the Groningen of Holland in an millionaire amount.
☺ Bolivian Gustavo Pinedo to the Cadiz from Spain
The young Bolivian player and one of the most promising stars, Gustavo Pinedo (17 years old) was presented as one of the new faces of the Cadiz from Spain. He played Punta Cup and because of his performance in the tournament contacts were made by observers from Cadiz to reach an agreement in the conditions necessary for his inclusion in the mentioned club.
Pinedo is of humble origins and was discovered by Mr. Roly Aguilera (Founder of the Tauhuichi Aguilera Academy) while he was looking after the cars in the parking lot of the Stadium.
He has already taken part of the last under 17 South American tournament playing for his national team, and now has this chance that opens big opportunities that he will hopefully achieve.
☺ Nacional crowned Champion of Punta Cup 2006
Today morning Nacional defeated Talleres de Cordoba by 2-0, in the Tournament's final game.
Spite having started the tournament loosing to this same Team in the first phase, the Uruguayan team became the most regular, this was a result of the great team's football and the talent of some of the player's like the number 9, Federico Laens, chosen as the best player of the tournament.
With this Nacional becomes the first Uruguayan Team that wins Punta Cup, we extend our congratulations from all of the organizers to Nacional for their Championship and excellent behavior.
☺ Final Game Saturday 10.10 am
Due to the delay caused by heavy storms of the semi finals the final will be played Saturday morning at 10.10.
☺ Heavy Storms delays the closure of this year's Tournament
Semi final games had to be postponed due to heavy storms that made impossible for the tournament to be played in normal conditions and without any possible danger for the players because of the lightings that could compromise their integrity.
☺ PSV Eindhoven signed Punta Cup 2005 best player
Just moments before the international transfer market closed the Dutch giant and last year's Champions League semi-finalist PSV Eindhoven has signed last Punta Cup best player, Juan Carlos Carrizo.
Carrizo is considered as a hot prospect for the near future. He earned his contract after he made impression during a trial period in Eindhoven.
The 18 year old Argentinean left midfielder signed a 4 years deal at PSV Eindhoven , for a U$S 2.000.000 transfer amount. Also he has played in the national team under 17.
It should be noted that the one of the PSV observers Hans van der Zee, scouted the player at Punta Cup 2006 when he was in Punta del Este last March, to see our tournament .
☺ Ex- players of Punta Cup in first division teams
Several players who participated in the 2 first editions of Punta Cup, have made their debuts in the first divisions of their respective clubs in some cases very successfully.
For example 2 weeks made his debut Radamel Falcao García, the Colombian, forward of River Plate of Argentina that also disputed the Under 20 World Cup with the National Team of Colombia.
In its first game, Falcao scored 2 of the 3 goals of the victory of River against Independiente and the successive game returned to score against Olimpo.
This player adds itself to others like Juan Albín (Nacional), author of the goal of the victory in last game of Nacional against Tacuarembó, Luís Suárez of the same team, Fernando Muslera, goalkeeper of Wanderers and player of the Under 20 Uruguayan National Team.
Luís Escalada has had important appearances in the first team of Boca Juniors, the midfielder Fernando Gago already is a star in Boca Juniors and together with Luís Ustari from Independiente were champions of Under 20 World Cup with the Argentine National Team in Holland .
Another case is the boys of Vélez Sarsfield of Argentina Mauro Zarate and Darío Ocampo (better player of PuntaCup 2004), who are already champions in Argentinean first division championship.
Also in Brazil the best goalkeeper of Punta Cup 2005, Marcelo Grohe, already has done his first appearances in the first team of Gremio.
All these boys give the real projection to the level of the teams participating in Punta Cup and confirm that the teams come with the best players they have in junior categories.
